What do they do?

  • Visually enhance current images
  • Use editing software such as Photoshop or InDesign
  • Adjusting color tones
  • Retouching skin textures
  • Editing backgrounds

Retouchers work mostly into digital formats and provide services for a variety of industries using digital images on a regular basis.

Although there were traditional skills which needed to be used, these days advanced knowledge of photo-editing software is more peferred, such as adobe photoshop or indesign.

Traditionally though, retouchers would use inks and paint brushes to add embellishments or edit existing print images.

What are the educational requirements?
To learn or understand photo editing, it would be best to earn a degree from an art school or a traditional university. For highly passionate photo editors, they could consider in taking photography courses or even graphic design, computer courses could also become helpful.

Photo Retouchers can work anywhere whether in his home or in small places such as Starbucks. There are some though who work in photography studios.

There are also some large companies like fashion magazines who hire them to work with freelance retouchers on a regular basis.
