PRESENTATION OUTLINE

5 KEY POINTS ON PHOTOGRAPHY

Position the subject off Centre

  • Your subject shouldn't be in the centre of the frame, but rather
  • positioned off centre- to the left, right, up or down.
  • You can also place your subject on any of intersection points
  • or along one of the four lines, like the flower in this photo

BALANCE THE SUBJECT

  • "Balancing the subject" just means you put a secondary
  • subject (something of less importance) in the photo to
  • balance out the look of it, for example in this photo
  • the spider has more importance than the tree.

DON'T CENTRE THE HORIZON

  • When shooting scenes that involve the horizon don't
  • place the horizon in the dead centre. This visually
  • cuts the photo in half and therefore wouldn't look
  • as engaging. In this photo I used the rule of thirds
  • to position the horizon just above the middle.

MAKE IT SYMMETRIC

  • There are a few ways to make your photo
  • symmetric. You might take photo on which both
  • sides of your photo are the same. Or you
  • Take a photo of something that itself is symmetrical.

BREAK SYMMETRY

  • For this technique you are doing the opposite of
  • making symmetry. Instead you're trying to break it.
  • You can do this by either making one side of the photo
  • non symmetrical or in my example break symmetry
  • by only shooting part of it in the frame.
