PRESENTATION OUTLINE

PHOTOSYNTHESIS AND CELLULAR RESPIRATION

HOW THEY WORK

REACTANTS

  • Photosynthesis: oxygen, water, and sun light.
  • Cellular respiration: glucose and oxygen

PRODUCTS

  • Photosynthesis: glucose and oxygen are made
  • Cellular respiration: Carbon, water, and ATP are made

PURPOSE

  • Photosynthesis: the purpose is to create glucose to use for energy.
  • Cellular respiration: the purpose is to create ATP from glucose for energy.

WHERE IT HAPPENS

PHOTOSYNTHESIS HAPPENS INSIDE THE CHLOROPLAST IN PLANTS

WHERE IT HAPPENS

CELLULAR RESPIRATION HAPPENS IN THE MITOCHONDRIA OF ANIMAL CELLS

HOW PHOTOSYNTHESIS HAPPENS

  • The plant leaves absorb sunlight and water from their area.
  • After the light reactions ATP and NADPH go into the dark reactions
  • Once there carbon dioxide is added to create more energy
  • Glucose and oxygen are the products of these reactions

HOW CELLULAR RESPIRATION HAPPENS

  • Glucose is broken down in a process called glycolysis creating two ATP
  • Once broken down it is added to mitochondria with oxygen
  • The kerb cycle occurs creating 2 ATP
  • Water is released and the electron transport cycle occurs making 32 ATP
  • Water and carbon dioxide are the products of these cycles.

THE ROLE OF ATP IN BOTH PROCESSES

  • ATP is energy for daily uses
  • After created it is stored and used later when more ATP is needed
  • Is only made because of the need for it
  • Oxygen helps make more ATP, but can be made without it, not as much made

TYPE OF REACTION

  • Photosynthesis: this is a synthesis type of reaction because it breaks down things
  • Cellular respiration: this is also a synthesis type if reaction because it breaks down things
