Types of annelids

  • earthworms
  • leeches
  • marine worms

Phylum Annelida characteristics

  • Bilaterally symmetrical and vermiform
  • Has a true circulatory system 
  • Has no true respiratory system 
  • Reproduces sexually but is hermaphoditic
  • Annelida - "annellus" (Latin) means little rings

Lifespan of annelida

  • Some Annelids can regenerate 
  • Some are eaten by other animals
  • All but polychaeta clitellum to reproduce

  • mostly marine worms
  • Have parapodia (little legs) with bristles 
  • live anywhere in the ocean/on beaches
  • ex: Nereis (clam worm)
  • Polychaeta means "many bristles"

  • have chaetae (hairs) for moving
  • no parapodia or head region
  • live in damp or wet habitats
