PRESENTATION OUTLINE

DANIEL BERNOULLI

By: Mauro Mercado, Victoria Gonzalez, Mario Barbery

BIOGRAPHY

  • Born on February 7, 1700
  • Died March 17, 1782
  • He was a Swiss mathematician, doctor, and physicist
  • Daniel Bernoulli was born in Groningen, in the Netherlands

Biography (continued)

  • Studied in Basel, Heidelberg
  • Got a PhD in botany and anatomy
  • Published is book "Hydrodynamica"

History

  • Daniel was born with a distinguished mathematician family.
  • He had a bad relationship with his father, Johann
  • His father encouraged him to study buisness but Daniel refused.
  • His father then asked him to study medicine.
  • Daniel agreed with the condition for his father to teach him math.

Why was he important?

  • Most known for being an expert in hydrodynamics
  • "Bernoulli's principle" is still used today
  • His principle is the basis of morern aviation
  • Developed the idea of water pumps, mills, and propelers

What did he invent/discover?

  • Bernoulli didn't invent anything
  • However, he made crucial principles used today
  • Made the "Bernoulli's principle"
  • Used today mostly in aviation
  • More speed, less pressure. Less speed, more pressure

Untitled Slide

Example:
When you cover half of the hose when watering the plants, it is bernoulli's principle in action. The small size of the exit hole makes the water faster, and therefore, reach further.

THE WATER IN THIS SYRING EXITS OUT FAST because of the small hole
