WAVE

  • anything that disturbs a medium

LIGHT

  • Transmitted by a transverse wave.

SOUND

  • a wave that is formed when a sound is made and that moves through the air and carries the sound to your ear.

AMPLITUDE

  • a measurement that indicates the movement or vibration of something (such as a sound wave or a radio wave)

PITCH

  • how high or low a sound is

FREQ. & PERIOD

  • Frequency- How many cycles of a wave per sec, f=1/t
  • Period- How long it takes for one cycle of a wave to occur t=1/f

DAMPING

  • When sound gets very quiet or inaudible
  • When a wave stops
  • Due to friction

DIFFRACTION

  • When a wave passes through a small opening & spreads out

REFLECTION

  • Light bounces

REFRACTION

  • Light bends

INTERFERENCE

  • Two identical waves hit and make a bigger wave
  • Two opposite waves hit each other, kills both waves

ECHO

  • A sound wave reflection

REVERBRATION

  • A reechoed sound
  • The fact of being reverberated or reflected

DOPPLER EFFECT

  • The farther a sound travels, the quieter and lower a sound seems

RESONANCE

  • The quality in a sound of being deep, full, and reverberating.

ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM

  • The range of wavelengths or frequencies over which electromagnetic radiation extends
