acceleration

  • the rate of change in velocity; can mean speeding up, slowing down, or changing direction

air resistance

  • the frictional force between air and moving objects

balanced force

  • forces that are equal, but in opposite direction

force

  • a push or pull measured in newtons

friction

  • a force that opposes motion between two objects that are touching and causes an object to slow down or come to a stop

gravitational potential energy

  • energy an object poses because of it's position in a gravitational pull

gravity

  • an attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass, the greater the mass, the greater the gravity between the objects

inertia

  • the tendency of an object to resist motion

kinetic energy

  • energy in motion

potential energy

  • energy an object has due to it's position

thrust

  • a pushing force that propels objects in the opposite direction

unbalanced forces

  • forces that are unequal and cause an object to accelerate

velocity

  • speed in a particular direction

Newton's Laws

Newton's first law: (inertia)

  • an object at rest tends to stay at rest, and an object in motion tends to stay in motion until an unbalanced force acts in motion

Newton's second law: (F=MxA)

  • It requires more force to move a larger mass

Newton's third law: (action-reaction)

  • for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction

Speed=Distance+Time
