WHERE DID PIGS ORIGINATE FROM?

  • Pigs are originated from Asia and Europe.
  • Pigs were domesticated 9,000 years ago in Europe.
  • They were introduced to Europeans in the 1800 and 1900 century.

How did this animals come to the US?

  • They were brought to the US in the 1900's.
  • They were brought to the US by a Spanish explorer.

HOW DID THIS ANIMAL MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE UNITED STATES?

  • They give us bacon, pork, and other meat.
  • Pigs aren't traded as much as they used to be.
  • American meat companies made 22.8 billion pounds of pork in 2011.

HOW DID THE PIG HELP THE U.S. GAIN POWER?

  • Good food and people love them.
  • For trading purposes.
  • Pigs brought money and power.
  • Money and profit.

WHAT SPECIAL NEEDS TO PIGS NEED TO THRIVE?

  • They eat corn, wheat, barley, and mostly oats.
  • Terrain there used to is simple, they stay in the fields mostly in the daytime and in the nighttime in their barn.
  • Pigs like to be cool in the summer and warm in the winter, just like most humans.

IN WHAT WAYS HAVE SCIENTIST USED GENETIC ENGINEERING TO CHANGE THE PIG?

  • Farmers use a way of farming that might be harmful called intensive farming.
  • This is where the farmer puts each pig in their own small stall with a hard, cold cement floor

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF PIG WAS NO LONGER A RESOURCE IN THE US?

  • A lot would change in the meat business.
  • It would change Americans because of the use of bacon, ham, and pork in most households.

SOMETHING I LEARNED ABOUT PIGS I DID NOT KNOW!

  • I learned that their bones were used to make glue.

HOW MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF THIS ANIMAL ARE THERE AND WHICH ONE IS MOST COMMONLY KNOWN?

  • There are 73 different kinds of pigs.
  • Large White, Landrace, and Duroc are the most common known
