Pilgrims and Puritans

HOW PLYMOUTH AND MASSACHUSETTS BAY WORKED THROUGH THE LENS OF A POLITICAL SCIENTIST

When they arrived in 1628 they had a charter which gave them the right to settle a colony in the new world. When they got there they had a plan and where ready politically with a plan to keep them going.

When they got there they became allies with the tribe nearby. The leader of the tribe was named Squanto who thought them how to grow crop and fish in the waters they where accustomed to.

Calvinism arrived in England at the same time as it arrived in the new world. The practicing Calvinists changed the way some people looked at the other religions which I think would take away part of the beliefs that they had in christianity.

When King Henry the VIII broke ties with the Catholic Church they left England and went to the new world. They left so that they didn't have to practice under the Church of England probably the most strict church there was.

The signings of the mayflower compact was a huge political deal that helped the pilgrims set most of the laws and become interactive with the nearby Indian tribes that later helped them become successful. 41 men signed this compact and very historical document which I think helped in the creation of the Declaration of Independence.
