WHAT ARE SOME SYMPTOMS?
PKU plays a role in the body's production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin and hair color. Therefore, infant with the condition often have lighter skin, hair, and eyes than siblings without the disorder.
Other symptoms are
-delayed mental and social skills
-head size significantly below normal
-jerking movement of the arms and legs
-seizures
WHAT TREATMENTS ARE THERE?
There is no cure for PKU, but treatment can help prevent it. A person with PKU shouldn't eat or drink milk and cheese, eggs, nuts, soybeans, beans, chicken, beef, or pork, fish, peas, and beer.
