PRESENTATION OUTLINE
PKU (or Phenylketonuria) is a birth defect that makes the person not able to digest proteth.
PKU gets its name from an alpha amino acid called Phenylalanine.
It's passed by parents through genes.
Symptoms include (If not treated,) being anxious, moody and a higher risk of ADHD or worse, brain damage.
The best way to deal with it is a heavy no protein diet.
There is no cure for PKU, but the diet will help a lot.
Babies are tested by taking some blood from the heel.
Most kids who suffer from PKU are generally blond with blue eyes.
