WHAT IS A PLANT
- Nearly all plants are autotrophs, organisms that produce their own food
- All plants are eukaryotes that contain many cells. In addition, all plant cells are surrounded by cell walls
PLANT ADAPTIONS FOR LAND
- Must have ways to obtain water and nutrients
- They must be able to hold the water
- They must transport materials in their bodies
- They must support their bodies, and reproduce
NONVASCULAR PLANTS
- There are three major groups of nonvascular plants
- Mosses, Liverworts, and Hornworts
- They live in moist areas where they can absorb water and nutrients
MOSSES
- More than 10,000 species
- Most diverse group of nonvascular plants
- They grow in damp shady spots!
