WHAT IS A PLANT
Nearly all plants are autotrophs, organisms that produce their own food
All plants are eukaryotes that contain many cells. In addition, all plant cells are surrounded by cell walls

PLANT ADAPTIONS FOR LAND
Must have ways to obtain water and nutrients
They must be able to hold the water
They must transport materials in their bodies
They must support their bodies, and reproduce

NONVASCULAR PLANTS
There are three major groups of nonvascular plants
Mosses, Liverworts, and Hornworts
They live in moist areas where they can absorb water and nutrients

MOSSES
More than 10,000 species
Most diverse group of nonvascular plants
They grow in damp shady spots!
