Plate Tectonics Definition
Pieces of earths lithosphere are in slow constant motion driven by convection currents in the mantle

The first cause of plate movement is convection currents in the mantle which is the main source

The second cause of plate movement is gravity pulling on the plates in the subduction zones which is also called slab pull

The third cause of plate movement is sea floor spreading which causes new crust to form pushing the tectonic plates apart also known as ridge push

Divergent Plate Boundary
This is a boundary where plates are moving apart

An example of a land form resulting from a divergent plate boundary is Olduvai gorge

An example of a sea landform from divergent plate boundary is a mid ocean ridge

Convergent Plate Boundary:
The place where two plates collide/converge

The resulting landform from ocean vs continent convergent plate boundary is a deep ocean trench

The resulting landform from ocean vs ocean convergent plate boundary is a volcano

The resulting landform from continent vs continent convergent plate boundary is a mountain range

A subduction zone is a land mark that tells where two of earths plates meet

A deep ocean trench is the area where new crust is formed

An example of a deep ocean trench is the Mariana's trench

Transform Plate Boundary:
A place where two plates slide past each other, moving in opposite directions

The resulting event from a transform plate boundary is an earthquake

An example of a landform resulting from a transform plate boundary is the San Andreas Fault
