• The 3 types of souls are rational, spirited, and appetitive
• These types are broken down using 3 topics
• Desires, virtue, and social class
• Plato believed we can not control our soul because we are born with it

RATIONAL SOUL

• Very few were believed to have this
• Desires truth
• Virtues wisdom
• Philosophical king of social class
• Usually given to great thinkers/ philosophers

SPIRITED SOUL

• More common soul to be born with
• These people still have rationality, non- dominant
• Desires self preservation
• Virtues courage
• Soldiers of the social class

APPETITIVE SOUL

• Given to people with limited skill and ability
• Desires instincts: hunger and thirst
• Virtues temperance
• Merchant, laborers, and workers of social class
• Very instinctual and non- thinking

WHAT IS JUSTICE?

• Justice was to form a "just city"
• Limit= unity
• New things would corrupt young minds
• Arts, music, etc effects the spirit of the soul
