Elephants, with their trunks so huge and ears like mudflaps
They walk along like trucks, ripping through anything in its path
Destroying cities,
BANG!! The sound the elephant makes as it knocks into a tree to get its fruit.
CRACK!! The sound the tree makes as it falls to the ground
Putting a shudder through the spine of anyone nearby 27/7/15
This poem is about the strength of the elephant and the bang and crack are onomatopoeia that I have used to emphasize the sounds made by the tree and the elephant. I have used similes to explain what elephants look like and to add more depth to the poem.
The elephant walks, like an army marching into battle
He rams down trees, like a bulldozer ripping up a building
He trudges along making the ground rattle
The elephant feels something hit him in the side
He looks down and falls to the ground
The humans walk over to him, he's still awake
They cut his tusks off, making him scream
They walked away, leaving him to die
The elephants stride is a poem about the strength of the elephant and how people can destroy such amazing creatures so easily. I have used a simile to describe how strong the elephant is in a more interesting and compelling way. I have also used rhyme to engage the readers and keep them interested.
As the elegant eagle flys toward the distant horizon
he looks down and sees the beautiful floor of the african desert
as he flys he notices a little lizard sprawling across the ground
the eagle swoops down and picks up the lizard like a lion pouncing on a gazelle
the eagle flys away disappearing into the beautifully setting sun
This poem is to show the beauty of the eagle and how it catches prey. The two language techniques in this poem is simile to express the way the eagle hunts and I have also used alliteration to emphasis certain parts of the poem.
Pete The Preposterous Possum went to the store
Pete The Preposterous Possum bought some pedestal fans
Pete The Preposterous Possum took his fans to the door
Pete The Preposterous Poof got a fake tan
Pete The Preposterous Possum went with his friends to Bens
Pete The Preposterous Possum started preparing for the party
Pete The Preposterous Possum needed a present, so he got ben some pens
Pete The Preposterous Possum liked being arty
Pete The Preposterous Possum is a poem about a possum who goes to a party with his friends. I have used alliteration to exaggerate the name of the possum and to keep it towards a kids themed poem. I have used rhyme for the same reasons. This poem was also meant to be a little silly.
The Tyger By William Blake
Tyger! Tyger! burning bright,
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare sieze the fire?
And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?
Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
