nORTH kOREAN iSOLATION

  • Contact with the outside world is forbidden.
  • They do not allow any outside influences, and they do not have
  • alliances or relations with other countries.
  • North Korea chooses to be isolated with the belief that
  • they can do well on their own.

Taiwanese isolation

  • Taiwan is claimed by China and not recognized
  • as an independent nation.
  • China threatens to stop all trade with any country that
  • recognizes Taiwan as an independent nation.
  • Taiwan is isolated because China has control of Taiwan.

Similarities of the Isolations

  • Both countries are politically isolated.
  • Because of isolation, nations cannot interact and ally with
  • those two countries.
  • Trade is impossible with North Korea's isolation, and
  • it is risky for a nation to trade with Taiwan.

Differences

  • North Korea chose to be isolated and Taiwan did not.
  • North Korea is not controlled by any country while Taiwan is.
  • Taiwan is not officially an independent nation while North Korea is.

Should the U.S. continue to support taiwan?

  • I don't think the U.S. should continue.
  • It is too risky, and the consequences of trade being
  • cut off with China would be hard on the U.S.
  • We could be fine with manufacturing inside of the U.S.,
  • but an abrupt halt of trade would leave us struggling.
