POLYNOMIAL PROJECT

BY BEN CHEEVER

WHAT IS A POLYNOMIAL

  • Polynomial: a collection of terms.
  • Terms are made of constants, variables and exponents.
  • Types of polynomials: mononomial, binomial and trinomial.
  • Degree: largest exponent in the polynomial.

ADDING AND SUBTRACTING POLYNOMIALS

  • Combining like terms: combine terms with same variables and exponents.
  • Adding: combine like terms.
  • Subtracting: combine like terms make everything in second parentheses opposite.
  • Common mistakes: not making the second parentheses opposite.

MULTIPLYING POLYNOMIALS

  • Monomial x polynomial: 1. 3(x+5) 2. 3(x)+3(5) 3. 3x+15
  • Binomial x binomial: 1. (2x+4)(4x+5) 2. 8x+10+16x+20
  • Binomial x polynomial: 1. (2+3)(4x-x+5) 2.=20x+5x+10x+15
