POLYPTOTON AND POLYSYNDETON

POLYSYNDETON:
USING MULTIPLE COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS IN SUCCESION TO CREATE AN ARTISTIC EFFECT.

POLYSYNDETON

• Comes from Greek word meaning "bound together."
• Used where conjuctions could have been ommitted.
• Usually used very quickly with short words in-between.

Example 1:
We have money and men and supplies and time and stores and everything we need to complete this project.

Example 2:
"If there be cords, or knives,
Poison, or fire, or suffocating streams,
I'll not endure it."

Polyptoton
-Repetition of a word in a different case or inflection in the same sentence.
-The repetition of words derived from the same root but with different endings.

POLYPTOTON

• From the Greek, "use of the same word in different cases"
• Uses excessive words instead of shorter expressions.
• Help embellish sentences to create striking effects.
• Pronounced as "polyp-toton"

There can be absolutely nothing that is absolute until proven to be valid.
