My explorer is Ponce De Leon and here is a little bit about his life

Went to Christopher Columbus's second voyage to Florida



The Spanish king ordered Ponce de Leon to continue the settlement of the island and gold-mining.

Hearing reports of gold near Puerto Rico ponce de Leon was sent by the Spanish king to explore the island in 1508.

-He was the first European to step onto Florida land
He named it Pascal de Florida which means the feast of flowers. Some people believe this was because it was Palm Sunday when they had spotted land on April 2, 1513.

-He discovered the Gulf Stream which would become important for Spanish trips from Europe to America. On April 8, 1513, he claimed the land of Florida for Spain and headed south in this current. this is the reason for the celebration of Ponce De Leon Day on April 8 in the years.

- He was known for searching for his fountain of youth to cure his aging, though most believe he was actually searching for gold and power instead

When Juan Ponce de León died in Cuba his remains were later transferred to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where the remains were later put to rest in San Juan Cathedral. Also Puerto Rico third largest city Ponce, bears the great explorers name

I chose this explorer because I was most interested in Ponce de León . Also because I wanted to know when he did the stuff he did and why he did it also where he did it.

He fits this definition because he travels he has honor he has courage and he has war survival skills to survive. And traveled out to a new world even though he doesn't know what's out there

It's like being an explorer because your going into a new space and everything is going to change you won't be in elementary school and you will have to figure things out on your own.


It's important because people need to know about these explorers they need to know why our world is like this and why we have a place called st. Augustine. And why we have a exibit that's called the fountain of youth

What would i do differently next time? I would look more closer in what I think about explorers because I never new how much the explorers changed the world but now I know

What did I learn about myself on this project?
I learned that it's hard to find good pictures and that I can be really hard working.
