PRESENTATION OUTLINE

POPSICLE STICK BRIDGES

BY TREVOR PATTON AND JORGE CONTRERAS

THE PROBLEM

WE HAVE TO DESIGN A POPSICLE STICK BRIDGE THAT CAN HOLD UP WEIGHTS AND AT LEAST SPAN 36 I

TYPES OF STRESS

  • Compressive stress:strss caused by puching together.
  • Tensil stress:stress caused by pulling apart

HOW TO SOLVE TO STRESS

BY DESIGNING DIFFERENS TYPES OF DESIGNS UNTIL ONE WORKS

WHAT TYPE OF BRIDGE DID YOU USE

A TRUSS BRIDGE

HOW MUCH WEIGHTS DID IT HOLD

  • It held none
  • the bridge was to thin
  • it bent
  • The bend made the bridge shorter
  • it was just a incomplete deck

ADVICE

  • Try making a brige that has elstic deformation
  • That is not affected by any type of stress
  • Stress=broken bridge

200 MORE STICKS TO IMPROVE OR REDESIGN

  • we would have made more triangles
  • this would have improved it alot
  • We would have completed the bridge
  • We would also make a better deck
