  • Research, plan & coordinate photo shoots
  • Photograph people individually & in groups
  • Digital editing to improve photographs 
  • Present their work to clients and galleries

Portrait Photographers

  • Focus on a person or people, not the scene itself
  • Use creative lighting and editing techniques
  • Use their skills to express mood or thought in the image
  • Shoot candid "street portraits" 
  • Or shoot in a professional studio or set location

Portrait photographers usually employ one of these methods:

constructionist
environmental
candid
creative

They may also be influenced by technical, artistic or cultural ideals.

Portrait Photographers Need:

  • The ability to interact well with people
  • To be able to adapt to new technology
  • Patience, adaptability & flexibility
  • Proficiency with many cameras & lenses
  • A degree is desireable but not required
