  • One of the top three gods in mythology.
  • Brothers: Zeus and Hades
  • Parents: Cronus and Rhea
  • Sisters: Hestia, Hera, and Demeter
  • God of sea (water), horses, and earthquakes

  • Considered responsible for shipwrecks and drowning
  • Was know as Neptune to the Romans
  • Symbol best know for: Trident
  • Often shown along side his wifi, Amphitrite, In a sea chariot drawn by sea horses
  • On earth he cause earthquakes... In bull-form

  • Trident: Shake the earth and shatter any object
  • Lives on Mount Olympus occasionally, most times are spent in
  • Underwater kingdom.
  • Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon split the world.
  • Hades: underworld. Zeus: everything. Poseidon: water.

POSEIDON VS ATHENA

  • Cecrops had to find a patron for the city-state Athens
  • The two gods who were interested were Poseidon and Athena
  • Cecrops asked for them to offer a gift truly valuable for Athens.
  • Poseidon's gift was a well. He struck the ground with his trident and
  • A well with streaming water shot forth, but the water was too salty

POSEIDON VS ATHENA

  • Athena struck her spear into the ground and planted an olive branch
  • This way, she created an olive tree as a symbol of peace and prosperity
  • Cecrops was more impressed with Athena, so he chose her to claim the city
  • The city-state was therefor names Athens after Athena.
  • Poseidon was furious, so he threw his trident at the ground and cursed the city.

THE CURSE

  • When Poseidon cursed Athens, he said that there would never
  • Be enough water for everyone again.
  • Ever since then, there's been major water shortages in Athens.
