NAFTA

  • Is when textile mills went to other countries in the 1990's.
  • Also this is called the (North American Trade Agreement)... Or NAFTA.

MERCHANIZATION

  • Farmers had no more workers due to jobs in the north.
  • Also the farmers had to depend on machines to do the work.
  • Due to these machines prices of crops dropped.

DIXIECRATS

  • Southern democrats formed a new political party.
  • The States Rights Party (called Dixiecrats).

ORANGE-BURG MASSACRE

  • It was the only violence in SC during the time took place in Orange-burg.
  • Dozens were injured and three were killed when police shot students .
  • These students were protesting at a segregated boiling ally.

STROM THURMOND

  • He wrote the southern manifesto to protect the Brown v. Board of Education rulling.
  • Also he supported Richard Nixon's "Southern Strategy" which was to get support by resisting civil rights.

CIVIL RIGHTS ACT

  • A federal law that authorized federal action against segregation in public accommodations.
  • Also in public facilities, and employment.
