NAFTA
- Is when textile mills went to other countries in the 1990's.
- Also this is called the (North American Trade Agreement)... Or NAFTA.
MERCHANIZATION
- Farmers had no more workers due to jobs in the north.
- Also the farmers had to depend on machines to do the work.
- Due to these machines prices of crops dropped.
DIXIECRATS
- Southern democrats formed a new political party.
- The States Rights Party (called Dixiecrats).
ORANGE-BURG MASSACRE
- It was the only violence in SC during the time took place in Orange-burg.
- Dozens were injured and three were killed when police shot students .
- These students were protesting at a segregated boiling ally.
STROM THURMOND
- He wrote the southern manifesto to protect the Brown v. Board of Education rulling.
- Also he supported Richard Nixon's "Southern Strategy" which was to get support by resisting civil rights.
CIVIL RIGHTS ACT
- A federal law that authorized federal action against segregation in public accommodations.
- Also in public facilities, and employment.
