Poverty

By: Stephanie Floreza

What is poverty?

  • Poverty is an impact on peoples lives, including families.
  • Poor infrastructures, unemployment, lack of basic services and income reflect on their lack of education, malnutrition, violence at home and outside, child labor, diseases of all kinds, are transmitted by the family or through the environment.
  • Poverty means not having enough money for basic needs such as food, drinking water, shelter, or toilets. Many people in different countries live in poverty, especially in developing areas of West and Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and some parts of Asia.

The impact of poverty on natural processes, events and disasters

  • Air pollution is one of the major consequences of poor production techniques while water pollution is a result of poor water management, due to lack of knowledge. Water pollution affects so many things beyond the poor community itself. Water pollution deprives soil of nourishing elements, kills off fish, and is extremely harmful to human health.
  • but Because extreme poverty doesn’t always lend to widespread birth education, many poor women lack the resources necessary to engage in birth control. Therefore, it is common for poor women to continue having children after they would have liked because of no access to resources and education. The more the global population grows, and the more weight is placed on the environment, Every human being consumes their share of resources from the environment, and with so many births originating from poor communities, the burdens placed on the environment, grow heavier and heavier each day.

The ways we can change the future

  • There are so many lovely things we can do to change the future and make it become a better place and that's by ending poverty.
  • We could create jobs that pay well and that are available for everyone. To kick-start job growth, the federal government should invest in job-creation strategies such as rebuilding our infrastructure; developing renewable energy sources; renovating abandoned housing; and making other common-sense investments that create jobs, revitalize neighborhoods, and boost our national economy.
  • The government should raise the minimum wage so that we could lift a family out of poverty.
  • Invest in affordable, high-quality child care and early education. The lack of affordable, high-quality child care serves as a major barrier to reaching the middle class. In fact, one year of child care for an infant costs more than one year of tuition at most states’ four-year public colleges. On average, poor families who pay out of pocket for child care spend one-third of their incomes just to be able to work.
  • There is nothing inevitable about poverty. but what we need to start doing is build the political will to enact the policies that will increase economic security, expand opportunities, and grow the middle class.
  • THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.
