INTRODUCTION

  • 70% live in rural areas and live on agricultural
  • In Africa poverty has barely fallen
  • World wide it has fallen 40% to 20%
  • 218 million under extreme poverty sub- saharan
  • Libya, Algeria e.c.t live under extreme poverty

CAUSES AND WOMEN IN POVERTY

  • Insufficient income, conflict, environmental factors and population growth
  • Desertification, deforestation , drought, water shortages
  • 221 million in 1995 and 1 billion in 2009
  • Give birth to average- 5.2 children
  • Less than 20% have access to education

PERSONAL VIEWPOINT

  • People suffering from poverty is unaceeptable.
  • 29.4%- Somalya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Kenya and the Sahara
  • 35.3%- do not know
  • 17.65%- Sudan, 17.65%- all regions
  • Even though we are all equal humans, why are our lives so different?

CHILD POVERTY IN AFRICA

  • 1.4 million children in africa live in homes that often rely on dirty streams.
  • 1.5 million children have no flushing lavatories.
  • 1.7 million live in shacks with no proper cooking, bedding or washing facilities.
  • Four in ten children live in families where no one is employed.
  • Out of the 330,000 children in africa at least 1000 children die.

ACTIONS

  • The class can participate in the game free rice.
  • People can contribute to doing the forty hour famine.
  • You can donate money to an african child.
  • You can fund money to their schools for better education.
  • You can donate clothes or old furniture to a variety of organisations.

CONCLUSION

  • Women and children suffer from poverty more than men
  • In Africa 10.9 million children die each year
  • 70% of the continent is under extreme poverty this includes the sub- Saharan
