~Haitian poverty runs deeper and is more widespread than anywhere else on the continent

~ 78% of Haitians are poor and make about US$2 a day. More than half (54%) of haitians live in extreme poverty, which is less than US$1 a day.

~Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and the second most densely populated.

With nearly half the population living in extreme poverty in Haiti, the government and the international organizations (Oxfam International, The Red Cross, Food for the Poor) are busy with fighting, violence, inequalities, increasing food prices + social exclusions

The richest 1% of the population controls nearly all of Haiti's wealth

Haiti is the third hungriest country in the world after Somalia and Afghanistan. Food insecurity and hunger are chronic issues in Haiti.

~School is free but the cost of uniforms, textbooks, and related items are keeping many children from attending school.

~65% of elementary age children were enrolled before the earthquake , and although schools have reopened , enrollment is not back to previous levels

The devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti caused over 250,000 deaths in a population of 10million inhabitants. Tons of aspects related to poverty in Haiti contributed to the disaster but the lack of government structure and infrastructure. The earthquake in 2010 is one of the major causes of poverty in Haiti.

What does your research tell you?
What does it mean?

The facts that we found tell us that Haiti is a very poor country that is overpopulated, lots of people don't have homes or have money to pay for food. Most Families can't even afford for their children to attend school. To us this means that we are privilege to live in a first world country because there is a lot of people that don't have the same access as us such as an education, clean water, food, shelter, medical care and technology.
