What is praise?

  • To commend; to applaud; to express approval or admiration of
  • To exalt in words or in song; to magnify; to glorify
  • Praise is preoccupied with who God is and what He has done
  • Praise is a celebration and exhilaration
  • Praise can be singing, shouting playing instruments, and dancing

The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

#3 There is power in praise

#4 We are created to bring forth praise to God.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

when to praise?

#1 Praise Him continually

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is , the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Hebrews 13:15

#2 Praise Him when our souls are at rest.

Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. Psalm 32:7

How should we praise god?

#1 Lifting our hands

Todah: extends hands in thanksgiving

Vadah: to worship with extended hands

And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD, offer it at your own will.

why praise the lord?

1. We are commanded

Praise is not for God's own good, but our own good.

Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Psalm 150:1
