2.
WHAT ARE THE 5 PRECEPTS?
The Precepts are absolute minimum actions required of Catholics regarding the Church.
The Church uses these Precepts to remind us how to live a good Christian life.
Each of the precepts are requirements.
There are 5 precepts and one is broken, then it is known as a mortal sin.
Together with the 10 commandments; they represent the minimum level of moral living.
3.
FIRST PRECEPT
You shall attend Mass on Sundays and on holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor.
We must "sanctify the day commemorating the Resurrection of the Lord".
Throughout our lives we all already know to go to mass but now we know its a precept.
It requires the faithful to sanctify the day commemorating important days of the Church
4.
SECOND PRECEPT
"You shall confess your sins at least once a year."
In order to receive any sacrament we need to go to confession.
Confirmation is "continues Baptism's work of conversion and forgiveness."
If we don't go to confession God will not forgive us.
5.
THIRD PRECEPT
You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season
Since Jesus sacrificed himself on this day, the lest we can do is receive his body.
If someone does not go; then it's considered a mortal sin.
Guarantees as a minimum the reception of the Lord's Body and Blood in connection with the Paschal feasts.
6.
FOURTH PRECPT
You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church.
Whenever there is a day of fasting or abstinence he/she must obey.
Yes, it is hard to do this but we are doing it for Jesus.
It ensure time of self - control and penance,
Also prepares s for the liturgical feast
7.
FIFTH PRECEPT
You shall help to provide for the needs of the Church
Time, talent. and treasure is a good way to remember.
Everything we do is for The Lord, so why not give back.
The faithful also have the duty of providing for the material needs of the Church.
Someone give 10% of what he makes in a month.
8.
FASTING
Fasting is a sign of Repentance
Means reducing the amount of food you eat below normal levels.
On fast days you may eat one full meal and two smaller meals.
Fasting reminds us of Jesus in those 40 days in the desert,
9.
ABSTINENCE
Abstinence means not eating meat.
All Catholics 14 and older are required to observe abstinence on specific days
Days are: Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all Fridays in Lent.
