PRECEPTS OF THE CHURCH

WHAT ARE THE PRECEPTS?

• The minimum actions that Catholics can participate in

THE PRECEPTS: MASS

• We must attended Mass each Sunday
• We must rest and not work on Sundays
• It is not a sin if you cannot go to Mass because:
• You are sick or tending to a sick child
• Camping in the wilderness

THE PRECEPTS: CONFESSION

• We must go to confession at least once a year
• Confession prepares us for the Eucharist

THE PRECEPTS: EASTER

• We must receive the Eucharist at least during the Easter Season

THE PRECEPTS: FASTING AND ABSTINENCE

• We must participate in fasting and abstinence
• Children, the elderly, or pregnant women do not have to fast

THE PRECEPTS: THE CHURCH

• We must provide for the church
• Financial support
• Time and energy
• Time, talent, treasure

FASTING

• Sign of repentance
• reducing the amount of food you eat
• required to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday

ABSTINENCE

• Sign of repentance
• means not eating meat
• Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Lent

GO BEYOND!

• Attend Mass as many days as you can
• Find a spiritual director
• Contribute as much as possible to the church
• Go to confession at least once a month
• Receive the Eucharist at every Mass
