PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

FOUNDER

  • The founder of the Presbyterian Church was Martin Luther and was refined by John Calvin
  • But the Presbyterian Church today traces it's theological roots back to the writings of John Calvin

REASON FOR CREATION

  • They came from the Protestant Reformation in the 1500s

BELIEFS IN SCRIPTURES

  • Presbyterians believe the scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the only authoritative guide for faith and life
  • They try to always reform their life's and practices, together and individually, according to the scriptures

BELIEFS IN SACRAMENTS

  • Believe in two sacraments which are Baptism and the Lord's Supper
  • Presbyterians believe in these because they don't want to get distracted from the two most important sacraments
  • They administer baptism to adults upon their public profession in faith
  • Also administer baptism to infants and children in the expectation of their faith

BELIEFS IN SALVATION

  • They believe their salvation is by God's grace through faith and Jesus Christ
  • Also believe no matter what they do or how much they do it, they will always be sinners saved by grace

BELIEFS IN TRANSUBSTANTIATION

  • Presbyterians believe that Christ is present in the body and blood
  • They argue about Christ being a spiritual then a physical presence

COMMON PRACTICES, WORSHIP, AND WORSHIP GUIDE

  • Some common practices are worship services and bible readings
  • Worship to them is a #1 priority
  • They regularly gather with others to worship together and make a personal prayer
  • Presbyterians are inspired to worship God in all they do

BELIEFS IN PRAYER

  • Believe that making a personal prayer is priority
  • In those prayers, they explain how they "glorify God and enjoy him forever"

SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

  • Both believe in the sacrament Baptism and the Lord's supper
  • Both believe in Salvation, Bible, and God
  • Presbyterians only have the sacraments Baptism and Lord's supper
  • Presbyterians also believe in predestination
