HYPOTHALAMUS

  • Center of the brain
  • Hormones: Temperature, thirst, hunger, sleep, circadian rhythm
  • moods, sex drive.
  • Disease: Kallmann's syndrome: Lower sex drive + inability to smell

PITUITARY GLAND

  • Base of brain
  • Metabolism, growth, sexual maturation, reproduction, blood pressure
  • Disease: Pituitary tumor

THYROID

  • Located in neck
  • Controls metabolism
  • Disease: Graves disease, too many hormones

PARALATHOID

  • In the neck
  • Regulate calcium levels
  • Disease: Hyperparalathoidism: tumor

ADRENAL

  • Sit on top of kidney
  • Cortex+Medulia: Cortisol, aldosterone, adreneline
  • Disease: Addisons Disease

OVARIES

  • Either side of womb
  • Produce reproductive hormones
  • Disease: Polycystic ovary syndrome

TESTES

  • Located near the pelvis
  • Produce testosterone
  • Disease: Testicular cancer

PINEAL GLAND

  • Center of brain
  • Produces melatonin, contibutes to sleep cycles
  • Disease: Pineal tumors

THYMUS

  • Center of lungs
  • Largest in children-Help healthy immune system
  • Disease: Thymoma - Cancer of Thymus
