The Reformation of England. King Henry VIII declared himself as king of England. He wanted power power and wealth so he executed monasteries and taking the land and riches.
When Queen Mary died, her half sister Elizabeth became Queen. She jailed people who refused to attend church masses. She also banished catholic priests to death. She had absolute power over England.
In 1603, England's new monarch was King James I. He banned all private religious services. The Puritans and Separatist pleaded for freedom which made the king threaten to drive them out of England.
Separatist met illegally to practice their religion. Once they were caught, they decided to move to Holland. The separatist did not find it satisfying enough so they moved again to Virginia.
In September 1820, the Mayflower was being prepared to sail. It transported 102 people from Plymouth England to North America. The people established new colonies there.
Half of the pilgrims survived due to diseases on the Mayflower. They celebrated their first harvest on North America calling it the first Thanksgiving.
Separatist came to North America a few years later. The houses built there were cozy and comfortably made. The people farmed their food and raised cows and sheeps. The people here were very self sufficient.
After Oliver Cromwell died, the monarchy in England was restored under the rule of King Charles II. The power of puritans also diminished under his rule.
