Learn to identify and differentiate between primary and secondary sources.

  • Refer to the object on display
  • 8-10 minutes, when finished: results/notebooks

NOTES!

Primary Sources

  • Records of events as they are first described
  • Author experienced events first-hand
  • Had nobody else's interpretation or analysis
  • Serve as an ORIGINAL source of information

Primary Sources can be...

  • Letters, photographs, maps
  • Printed Material: newspapers, video/sound recordings
  • Physical Objects: clothing, furniture, tools, etc.

Examples of Primary Sources

  • Art: Original Artwork
  • History: Original Letter
  • Theater: Videotape of performance

Secondary Sources

  • Offer an analysis/explanation of p. sources
  • Use primary sources to support opinions/ideas
  • Not first-hand accounts of an event/time period

  • Textbooks, Books, Articles
