Prince Rogers Nelson
Born to musician parents. Prince was destined to a life with a musical influence.
Born in Minneapolis, MN in 1958. His birth name WAS Prince. Prince never spoke of his early life,
saying only 'I don't talk about the past.'
Prince's parents split when he was 10. He spent time between both homes but eventually ran away, in high school, and lived with a friend's family.
Early Years
- Revealed in a 2009 interview that he suffered from seizures as a child and was teased. So, he says he tried to compensate by being as flashy and as noisy as possible early in his career.
- An avid basketball fan. He played in high school at a diminutive 5'2".
- He formed his first band, Grand Central, in high school.
- Warner Brothers signed him at age 18.
There is not much information on Prince's childhood as he let it be known to media on more than one occasion that he would not talk about the past.

His career garnered 7 Grammys, 5 Number Ones, 14 Top Tens, 4 MTV VMAs, 1 Oscar, and 1 Golden Globe.
in 1979 his album 'prince' is RELEASEd
His first Top 40 Hit was the song, "I Wanna Be Your Lover". He was 21.

The vault inside Paisley Park was said to have held 385 unreleased finished recordings at last count.
in 1993, prince changes his name to a symbol
Even in this time of duress, Prince released his 1995 album, The Gold Experience, and had another top 5 song with, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World."
1995, PRINCE APPEARED PUBLICLY WITH THE WORD 'SLAVE' WRITTEN ON HIS CHEEK. THE NEXT YEAR HIS CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS TO THE LABEL FINALLY ENDED. HE CONTINUED TO BE KNOWN AS 'THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE' UNTIL 2000.
INTERVIEW IN ROLLING STONE (1996)
"But if I can't do what I want to do, what am I? When you stop a man from dreaming, he becomes a slave. That's where I was. I don't own Prince's music. If you don't own your masters, your master owns you."
prince marries 22 yr old mayte garcia.
Mayte was one of his dancers and a back up singer. They met when she was 16.
LETS HAVE A BABY (1996)
"So long I've gazed into your eyes. Wonderin' what they'd look like on a newborn child."
the child, a boy, dies at one week old.
Their son was born October 16, 1996 and suffered from Pfeiffer Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder.

SO BLUE (1978)
"I had everything I needed. But now my life is so blue. You meant the world to me. But now you're gone and I'm so blue."
THE TRUTH (1998)
"If there was just one day that everybody had to tell the truth. We'd trade bank accounts & move back to Neptune."
HIS PERSONAL AWAKENING. 2001.
- PRINCE BECAME A JEHOVAH'S WITNESS. HE SAID HE DID NOT CONSIDER IT A CONVERSION, BUT A REALIZATION.
- HE ATTENDED MEETINGS AND EVEN WENT DOOR-TO-DOOR TO WITNESS ABOUT HIS FAITH.
- DUE TO HIS RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, HE DID NOT SPEAK ABOUT HIS NUMEROUS CHARITABLE ENDEAVORS.
His language and performances changed somewhat after this 'realization'.
SHE LOVES ME 4 ME (2001)
"With this one I can b what I wanna b. I don't have 2 live up 2 no one's fantasy."
2004.
HE IS INDUCTED IN TO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.
2015.
Later, in the fall of 2016, he announced that he was working on his memoir, tentatively titled The Beautiful Ones.
April 21, 2016.
A week prior, his plane made an emergency landing and he was hospitalized with a severe case of the flu.
