PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SCALE

The relative size of an object in relation to other objects.
This staircase appears as if it's floating, making the room feel more open.

PROPORTION

The ratio of one part to another part.
This big furniture fills the empty space of the big room.

SYMMETRICAL BALANCE

Placing identical objects on either side of a central point.
The left side of the room looks as if it's the same as the right.

ASYMMETRICAL BALANCE

Placing different objects of equal visual weight on either side of a central point.
The couches on the left look about the same size as the bed on the right.

RADIAL BALANCE

Placing objects around a central point.
The couches are placed around the center table.

EMPHASIS

Center of attention.
The room is mostly plain except for the fireplace, which acts as a center piece.

RHYTHM

Leads the eye from one point to another.
The ceiling flows as if it's all connected.

REPETITION

Rhythm created by duplicating shapes, colors, pattern, lines, and/or texture.
This whole room is neutral colored, and square shaped.

GRADATION

Rhythm created by gradual change in size or color.
The doorway to this room has a gradual opening to a big room.

RADIATION

Rhythm created by identical objects coming from a central axis.
The staircase splits into identical parts from the middle.

OPPOSITION

Rhythm created by lines meeting at right angles.
The colors don't have a gradual change, it goes strait from white to red.

TRANSITION

Rhythm created by curved lines that carry your eye across a strait surface.
The spiral staircase looks almost as if it goes into the ceiling and spirals back down.

HARMONY

Achieved through sensitive balance of variety and unity.
There are many different colors but they all blend due to a certain beach theme.

UNITY

Gives a sense that everything in a piece of work belongs there.
All the pictures in this office fill the space on the wall perfectly, if one was missing it wouldn't look complete.

VARIETY

Variety creates interest and uniqueness. There is a lot going on in this room with shapes, color and balance, but it all fits together.
