THE PRINTING PRESS

THE INVENTION

  • The printing press was invented
  • By Johannas Gutenberg in 1436.

History

  • Before the printing press, people had to write using ink and quill.
  • There would be a lot of errors in the writing, and not many
  • People could get knowledge because copying was a challenge
  • Before the printing press came along. The writing would not
  • Be able to travel around to people who wanted it.

THE FIRST VERSION

  • Gutenberg used metal blocks that contained
  • One letter on each block and they could be arranged in
  • Any order. The first one was used by hand. By the 1800s
  • They started to use steam power so they could produce writtings
  • Faster.

TIMELINE

  • On September 30, 1452 Gutenberg published the
  • First book using the printing press; the Bible.
  • January 1, 1803 the iron printing press was invented.
  • January 1 1843, rotary printing press invented.
  • January 1 1870, paper can now be mass produced.

LATEST VERSION

  • Printing presses today are not operated by.
  • Hand or steam. They are all operated electronically
  • Or digitally. Today a printing press make over a thousand
  • Copies every minute!

IMPACT

  • The printing press had a major impact. It was able
  • To spread information quickly and accurately
  • And it created a wider literate public.

IMPACT ON ECONOMY

  • Before the printing press, having a book
  • Or anything that was printed would be really
  • Expensive and hard to get a hold of. The printing
  • Press brought down the prices of things printing.
  • It was also able to help spread knowledge around the world.
