The prison and asylum reform completely changed the way prisons and asylums were run. Asylums before the reform were very cruel with patients often hanging in chains(U.S. History). The movement allowed the development of new asylums and many new forms of treatments that still exist today. Furthermore, without the reform challenged people would still be seen as demons. Along with that, prisons were changed. The different genders were separated and children were placed in different buildings(U.S. history). Overall, prisons were changed drastically and are still changing today. This reform has changed the way all detained people are cared for and continues to change today.
