  • theory helps explain the diversity of life

DARWIN'S Studies 

  • he wrote detailed notes on his observations
  • he spent most of his time researching the Galapagos islands
  • he became interested in comparing fossils

tortoises

  • he made observations of the tortoises on the island
  • tortoises were very big
  • tortoises with dome shaped shells ate low growing plants
  • tortoises that feed on high growing plants had saddle shaped shells
