- Students must investigate, problem-solve, make decisions, innovate
- Teacher is simply there for support, not as the center of instruction.
- Study shows project based learning enhances the quality of learning and leads to higher cognitive development

- Primary Goal: students think critically about complex topics
- teacher models at first, but then student-led
- Rules: Stay on focused and on topic, clarify, do not interrupt, participate
- "There is no one right answer"
- 1. good open-ended question, 2. ask follow up question, 3. summarize and discuss all sides mentioned during original discussion
