  • Interdisciplinary
  • Centered around Challenging questions/ problems to be solved
  • Encourages decision making
  • Encourages cooperative learning

  • * Higher level of cognitive development
  • enhances quality of learning
  • * Creates positive communication with diverse population of students
  • * engages bored students
  • * Encourages high performing classroom environment

Challenges with PBL-Students May struggle w/

  • generating meaningful scientific questions
  • Analyzing/ evaluating data
  • Developing logical arguments
  • manning time or complexity

CHALLENGES WITH PBL-Teachers MAY STRUGGLE W/

Learning Cycle Model (5 Es)

Learning Cycle COntinued

  • Engagement: Connection facilitated with what students know & can do
  • Exploration: Hands-on activities (with guidance). Learner gathers & organizes data
  • Explanation: New concept are introduced/ cohesion are sought
  • Elaboration: Activities that build on skill
  • Evaluation: Students asses their knowledge & abilities

Inquiry Notes Continued0- Students will...

  • see themselves as participants
  • accept the invite to learn
  • Communicate using a variety of methods
  • Propose explanations & solutions to build concepts
  • Use observations
  • Critique science practices
