ANALYSIS OF DESIGN BRIEF

  • You now need to analyse your design brief
  • This is basically a list of questions
  • You can ask them on materials, tools
  • How you will make it? Size? Safety? Aesthetics?
  • This will help you in the research phase

  • No, its not an insult. This is what we use to analyse products
  • It is an acronym
  • We use it to remind of the key parts we should analyse

  • What material is it made out of?
  • What are the properties of this material?
  • Is it a good material choice and why?

  • What does the user need the product to do?
  • Will the user have any special requirements?

MANUFACTURE

  • How was it made?
  • Was it made in a factory?
  • What machines made it?
  • How many were produced at a time?

SIZE

  • What size is your product?
  • Be specific!
  • Use millimetres (mm)
  • Find out the height, depth and width

  • What does the product have to do?
  • What is it main jobs?

AESTHETICS

  • What is its appearence?
  • Does it have a high quality appearence?
  • What sort of finish does the product have?
  • Gloss? Matt? Textured? Colours?
  • Is it aesthetically pleasing?

  • How mich does it cost to make?
  • How expensive are the materials?
  • How expensive is it to make it?

ERGONOMICS

  • Is the product shaped to fit the humans?
  • Is it comfortable to use?
  • What curves or edges make it comfortable to use?
  • Could it be improved? If so how?
