Product of Powers:
When two numbers with the same base, with exponents are multiplied together, you must keep the base the same and add the exponents together.

Simple right?

Product of Powers:

  • (y^3) x (y^4)
  • y + (^3 + ^4)
  • (y^7) or y^7

If multiplying two numbers with the SAME BASE, ADD the exponents.

Power of a Product:
When a Power is on parenthesis or brackets, just add the power to all the factors equally and get rid of the brackets. Keep working on the problem from there.

Power of a Product:

  • (xy)^3
  • xy + (^3)
  • (x^3)(y^3) or x^3y^3

Find the power of EACH factor in the parenthesis and multiply.
