BATTLE OF THE ALAMO

  • For over 300 years, the Alamo has been a crossroads for history.
  • The Alamo, originally known as Mission San Antonio de Valero, is a former Roman Catholic mission and fortress compound and was the site of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836.
  • Mexican soldiers held the mission until December 1835, when General Martin Perfecto de Cos surrendered it to the Texian Army following the siege of Bexar.

BATTLE OF GONZALEZ

  • The Battle of Gonzales was the first military engagement of the Texas Revolution.
  • It was fought near Gonzales, Texas, on October 2, 1835, between rebellious Texian settlers and a detachment of Mexican army troops.
  • In 1831, Mexican authorities gave the settlers of Gonzales a small cannon to help protect them from frequent Comanche raids

BATTLE OF GOLIAD

  • The Battle of Goliad was the second skirmish of the Texas Revolution.
  • The plan was initially dismissed by the central committee coordinating the rebellion.
  • In 1835, Mexico operated two major garrisons within its Texas territory, the Alamo at San Antonio de Béxar and Presidio La Bahía near Goliad.

BATTLE OF COLTEO CREEK

  • The battle of Coleto, the culmination of the Goliad Campaign of 1836, occurred near Coleto Creek in Goliad County on March 19 and 20, 1836.
  • Fannin finally learned of King and Ward's defeat in the battle of Refugio from Hugh McDonald Frazer on March 17, but he still did not order the retreat to Victoria until the next day.
  • Urrea had quickly left Goliad without his artillery and the full complement of his force in order to narrow Fannin's two-hour lead.
