On November 19,1493 Christopher Columbus set foot on the island Puerto Rico. He was greeted by the Indian tribe the Taíno.

HISTORY

  • He thought that he had went all the way around the world to India so Spain could trade with them.
  • Puerto Rico was wanted by many countries like America, Europe, Spain and others.

HISTORY

  • When the Spanish American war came and the Americans won Puerto Rico.
  • Puerto Ricans are now US citizens which paved the way for the Puerto Rico's constitution.

CULTURE

  • Puerto Rico’s culture is a lively mix of Taíno, African, and Spanish influences.
  • People memorize the calendar for all the events they do that involve plays
  • The culture there has brightly colored buildings and has 18th century musical instruments

  • They eat many European foods.
  • Many people there are Catholicism.

  • The average temperature is 26 degrees Celsius (79 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • The north coast has the most rain on the island with over 1550 mm per year, while the south coast has an average rainfall of 910 mm. The mountains receive a lot more rainfall, between 3000 and 4000 mm annually.

POPULATION

  • The population of Puerto Rico is 3.63 million people
  • The population is decreeing everyday in 2020 their is suppose to be only 3 million Puerto Ricans
