Communism was a very large and impacting factor that moved people’s spirits as well as countries. The reason why communism is so powerful is because the person with power that people trust will begin to be dictated without them knowing. This is a strategy of communism that many communist used. For example in Animal Farm Napoleon used tactics such as wording which made it so that when he bent the rules he was able to by base the system of law that they have established. This can correlate into my article that I used called “Democracy Dies in Darkness” in the way that Cuba entices the people of Korea to become followers of their own nation. The way that they did this was through painting an image in their heads that “the grass is greener on the other side.”

A modern day example would be North Korea and their leader Kim Jung-un. Kim Jung-un holds the power with nobody 2nd to him when it comes to decisions. He holds all power… how this came to be was stepping up to becoming leader after Japan’s defeat in WWII. He painted the picture of how he was going to change everything for the better when there was a time of need for someone to step up. This has a phycological effect on people, how you may ask? It’s simple, when people are in desperate in times of need they seek refuge in what they believe is the “next best thing” and in this case that would be Kim Jung-un.

Napoleon did the exact same thing, he identified that there was a crisis, pointed out the flaws that were happening inside of the barn, the other farm animals then noticed these things and all of a sudden a moral enemy was painted.

Kim Jung-un being able to hold his power for so long is through threats, for example nuclear warfare with the U.S. His people fear him knowing he has this power to even threaten the U.S that he will launch a nuclear attack if they were to try to attack them. This in the North Korean’s eyes make them have a sense of fear of their leader. Fear as well as being able to do your part in society is necessary for keeping your people. The reason behind that is because your people will only turn on you if they believe that their leader is weak. However this hasn’t happened yet because of Kim Jung-un’s loyal security, his hierarchy, and is knowledgeable in the area of telling the people what they want to hear for him to take it back later and make everything smooth over.

Napoleon was able to do the same by giving the animals freedom in the beginning to have them think that what they have been working for was a good cause. Little by little their rights were beginning to get stripped away.

How communism is so successful in ruling is a question that can be answered very simply. It is by phycological warfare, false hope, and power. Being able to achieve power how Kim Jung-un and Napoleon have are by taking a stand when there was a time of need. They then exploited their people’s trust and created the same terrible environment but in the hands of what was once their “friend” or “ally.”
