Props & Equipment

A brief summary

Every shoot needs a camera

  • However, not all cameras are right for filming a music video. So, a Nikon DSLR served the best for my purpose.
  • I can also use my smartphone camera, to which the footage always looks just as clear as that filmed with the Nikon.
  • The idea behind using two cameras is for ease of filming and for the purpose of saving time.

Of course, tripods as well

  • The taller tripods allow easier access for filming those high-angled close-ups of the characters I want to achieve.

Of course, tripods as well

  • I had a tough time figuring out how to use the smartphone mount, at first, but was able to solve the mystery readily enough.
  • Having two available sources of filming makes the process a lot simpler, becasue I won't be constantly readjusting camera angles, saving time.

The key element: Green Screen

  • I decided to buy my own green screen so I ha unlimited access to what I needed.
  • It's not a fancy, full-fledged professional sheet, just some large green fabric which I can then position for the background of the music video.

The key element: Green Screen

  • I want to use a green screen in order to push myself and have an understanding on how it works before my full production.
  • This way, I can work out all the kinks and have learnt from my mistakes before any further productions.

Props were limited

  • The only use of props was simply the large mirror which I used to capture the reflections.
  • It has been made aware to me that I could capture the exact same type of images with a simple frame, rather than using a green screen and a mirror. But, I wanted practice with more advanced techniques, so I stuck with my original idea.

Props were limited

  • Any other props were nonexistent as I wanted all attention to be on the characters and their emotions throughout the video.
  • This way, I hope to focus the atmosphere directly around the melancholy of the lyrics, centering the video around that type of raw emotion.
