1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, [a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and steadfast love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
In the psalm, the lord is guiding the souls and the souls feel comfort and safety when with their beloved god. They feel that wherever there are, they are safe and loved when in the prense of god.
1 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
above the heavens.
2 From the lips of children and infants
you have ordained praise [b]
because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings [c]
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
9 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
In the psalm it is asking what are humans and praising the lord for all his creations and greatness.
Psalms Chapter 8
1 For the Leader; upon the Gittith. A Psalm of David.
ב יְהוָה אֲדֹנֵינוּ-- מָה-אַדִּיר שִׁמְךָ, בְּכָל-הָאָרֶץ;
אֲשֶׁר תְּנָה הוֹדְךָ, עַל-הַשָּׁמָיִם. 2 O LORD, our Lord, how glorious is Thy name in all the earth! {N}
whose majesty is rehearsed above the heavens.
לְמַעַן צוֹרְרֶיךָ; לְהַשְׁבִּית אוֹיֵב, וּמִתְנַקֵּם. 3 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast Thou founded strength, {N}
because of Thine adversaries; that Thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
יָרֵחַ וְכוֹכָבִים, אֲשֶׁר כּוֹנָנְתָּה. 4 When I behold Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, {N}
the moon and the stars, which Thou hast established;
5 What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that Thou thinkest of him?
6 Yet Thou hast made him but little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
7 Thou hast made him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet:
ח צֹנֶה וַאֲלָפִים כֻּלָּם; וְגַם, בַּהֲמוֹת שָׂדָי. 8 Sheep and oxen, all of them, yea, and the beasts of the field;
9 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea; whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
י יְהוָה אֲדֹנֵינוּ: מָה-אַדִּיר שִׁמְךָ, בְּכָל-הָאָרֶץ. 10 O LORD, our Lord, how glorious is Thy name in all the earth! {P}
