Have you ever imagined being in a place that gets only one inch of rain a year? Don't just imagine come learn about the Pueblo Indians that lived in New Mexico and survived such a place.
The pueblo lived in New Mexico and made apartment like buildings which were also called pueblos that held many families. The upper levels were for the younger people and the lower for the ellderly. They used stairs and ladders to climb to the upper levels and would pull them up at night to protect them from enemies and wild animals.
The pueblo had to use dry farming and irrigation systems to carry water to the crops since there was a small amount of rainfall. This was important because their crops were their main food source. They rarely ate meat because the dry climate made it hard for animals to live close by.
Almost all the water supply came from deep under the ground, because there were mountains on the outer side of the desert that got most of the rainfall.
There are not many animals that can live in the desert but I will tell you some of the ones that do. Different types of lizards, snakes, ,spiders, coyotes, and hares all live in the desert.
