LOCATION

Puerto Rico is south of North America in the Atlantic Ocean by the D.R.

A brief history of Puerto Rico: Puerto Rico was discovered by Christopher Columbus on November 19, 1493. In 1508 Juan De Leon founded a small Spanish colony by what is called Old San Juan today. On July 25, 1953 Puerto Rico was transformed into American territory. Today Puerto Rico is one of the only two states that isn't touching any other state.

THE CULTURE

  • Puerto Ricans are very festive and religious people
  • Every town has its own patron saint
  • Some of the holidays they celebrate are Three Kings Day, Columbus Day, and San Juan Bautista Day
  • Puerto Ricans are very theatrical and do many play productions
  • They have many baseball fields because baseball is a very popular sport there

The climate is tropical all year with an average temperature of 80°F

  • In Puerto Rico there are a variety of foods
  • Bacalaitos- crunchy cod
  • Frijoles negros- black bean soup
  • Different types of Caldero- beef stew

  • Plantains- bananas prepared ways not raw

PLACES TO VISIT

  • San Juan- the capital of Puerto Rico
  • Fort San Cristóbal- a fort on the coast where soliders used to stay and a place for protection now able to visit
  • Museo De Arte- an art museum
  • El Yunque national forest- the Puerto Rican rainforest with luscious green areas and waterfalls

  • The time zone is the Atlantic standard time
  • The national hymn is "La Borinqueña"
  • Major religion is catholic (85%)
  • The sun rise average is 6:54am
