HISTORY

Puerto Rico was founded by Christopher Columbus in 1493, but did not become a U.S. territory until 1898.

GOVERNMENT

Puerto Rico is a self governing commonwealth country. Puerto Rico is a republican government.

Puerto Rico does not have its own president because it is a U.S. Territory. The president of Puerto Rico is Barack Obama.

SPORTS

Puerto Rico is surrounded by an ocean so one thing Puerto Ricans love to do is surf. Puerto has many surfing competitions each year.

Puerto Ricans also like to go cycling. Each second week of May, jPuerto Rico has a cycling competion that a majority of Puerto Ricans participate in.

CLIMATE

Puerto Rico is almost always hot or at least warm. In Puerto Rico it is very tropical so very rarely is it cold.

It also tends to rain alot in Puerto Rico. The typical rain season is May through October.

DAILY LIFE

RELIGION

Children are required to go to school between ages five and seventeen. All clases are taught in Spanish but children are required to take English as a second language for all 12 years that they attend school.
